About Us
… and mankind was created for song.
History
In 2020, a new ensemble, ‘Margaliti’ (meaning “Pearl” in the translation from Georgian), was added to the community of Georgian traditional music performers. It is noteworthy that we have sung in the ensemble ‘Ialoni’ for many years and, during this time, we have implemented a number of important projects, including the release of several audio albums. Against the background of pandemic and global changes, last year turned out to be a turning point for us, too, in terms of creative approaches. We, twelve members of the ensemble decided to go on with what has long been an integral part of our lives – with new ideas, vision, a completely updated repertoire and exciting goals, all of these – under a new name of the ensemble.
Today, the ensemble’s repertoire includes all three directions of Georgian traditional music – based on archival expedition phonographs or notation manuscripts, we attempt to resound in singing the real pearls of church chants, rural or urban music with our characteristic handwriting.
